Images for Academic Publishing (IAP)
The Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) program makes available publication-quality images for use in scholarly publications free of charge. The IAP program was initiated by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2007 to help address the challenges of scholarly publishing in the digital age by providing free images for academic publications through an automated Web-based service. IAP is now available as an optional service to all museums who wish to foster scholarly publications. All IAP contributors also contribute images to the ARTstor Digital Library, which makes images available exclusively for teaching and educational use, not publication.
Scholars at subscribing ARTstor institutions can access these images through the ARTstor Digital Library. To find IAP images, simply add "IAP" to your search criteria. An icon reading "IAP" is located directly beneath the thumbnail image in your search results. Scholars working on specific publication projects who are unaffiliated with an ARTstor subscribing institution may request free IAP access by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
For images in the ARTstor Digital Library that are not part of IAP, or if your publication is not within the scope of IAP, consult the image data record for the rights and contact information (click on the text below the thumbnail of the image).
