Historic Campus Architecture Project (Council of Independent Colleges)

Overview

The Council of Independent Colleges Historic Campus Architecture Project (HCAP) is the first national architecture and landscape database of independent college and university campuses. It includes over 4,000 images of 2,100 places of historical significance as well as extensive information about buildings, landscapes, campus plans, and heritage sites of American higher education. Nearly 400 institutions have participated in the project.

HCAP is the outgrowth of increasing interest in campus history by many sectors of the educational community. Academic institutions are working to understand more completely their physical environments and how these environments relate to their educational mission, as well as wider historical trends. More information, including lists of participating institutions and sites documented, can be found on CIC's website at www.cic.edu/hcap.

The Council of Independent Colleges is an association of more than 580 independent, liberal arts colleges and universities and higher education affiliates and organizations that work together to strengthen college and university leadership, sustain high-quality education, and enhance private higher education's contributions to society.
