Leading training sessions
Training colleagues at your institution is a great way to promote the use of ARTstor. User Services is happy to share a number of resources that we created in the course of our training efforts.

Instructional handouts
ARTstor offers instructional handouts to assist both end users and local ARTstor administrators in using ARTstor. You may find it helpful to download these and hand them out to training session attendees. The Faculty Quick Guide and Student Quick Guide are both Word documents, and you can customize these documents as needed for your own training sessions.
See our Instructional handouts page to download the most recent documents.
Training session setup
Create an ARTstor account and upgrade it with instructor privileges if you do not already have an instructor-level account. Write down the e-mail address and password for later reference.
Download the OIV software and install it onto the machine you'll be using to give the training presentation. If the machine requires an administrator to install software, be sure to request this ahead of time. If you would like the training attendees to use OIV, each of the machines in the training room will need to have OIV installed beforehand so that the group does not have to wait for each person to install the software. If any faculty or staff will be bringing their own laptops, it would be helpful to have a flash drive or a CD with the OIV installation file for both a Mac and a PC, to expedite installation for these users.
Create two folders
Folder #1 - Title it "ARTstor: What will I see"
- Make the folder pubic at your institution.
- Create one large image group (30+ images) in the folder by doing a search for "political cartoons." Save this image group into the new folder and name the group "Political Caricatures." This image group may be used to demonstrate the image group print function.
- Create a second image group in this folder by browsing the Carnegie Collection in the category "Photography" and saving one page worth of images into a new image group. You can title this image group "Photography." This image group may be used to demonstrate online presentations and to find the image group URL.
Folder #2 - Title it "ARTstor: What can I do"
- Make the folder password-protected and give it a unique password. Note the password. This password may be used to demonstrate how registered users access a password-protected folder.
- In the last step when creating this folder, enable student work folders and enter an expiration date of 1 or 2 days after the training session.
- Create a second image group in the same folder by searching for "the modern poster". Name the group "The Modern Poster". This image group may be used to demonstrate how to access a password-protected folder.
Verify that the personal collection feature is available for instructor-level users. If you do not have this option available to you, check with your local ARTstor administrator about activating this feature.
When you demonstrate registration, create a second account without instructor privileges. You can then use this account to demonstrate how to obtain instructor privileges.
Optional
Download an image group into the OIV. Go to File -> Save and save this to a CD or a flash drive. You can take it to each machine in the room and copy this file onto each of the machines in the classroom either before everyone arrives or during a break.
Save three sample personal images on a flash drive and save to each user's computer. One should be a small size, one an average screen size (1024 x 768), and one a very large size to demonstrate the variety of image sizes and how they look in the OIV and when uploaded into the Personal Collection.
