Terra Foundation for American Art Collection
Artstor has partnered with the Terra Foundation for American Art to distribute approximately 700 images of American art in the Digital Library. The Terra Foundation collection of American art, which spans the colonial era through 1945, includes more than 700 works by such artists as George Bellows, Mary Cassatt, John Singleton Copley, Stuart Davis, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Maurice and Charles Prendergast, and James McNeill Whistler. A particular strength of the collection is American impressionism and its connection to the Giverny artists' colony. Digital images of the collection and comprehensive scholarly information can be found on the Foundation's website. The Terra Foundation has also made the digital images available through Artstor, where they are represented in the Digital Library with over 700 images of American paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, and sculptures.
The Terra Foundation for American Art provides opportunities for interaction with works in its collection by actively lending objects to national and international exhibitions that advance American art scholarship and through a multi-year loan to the Art Institute of Chicago's expanded American Galleries. Through grants and initiatives the Foundation has made it a priority to bring American art, interpretation, and research resources to audiences in Chicago and around the world and remains committed to supporting projects designed to engage audiences in an enriched dialogue on American art.
